AMUR - RUSSIA'S REUSABLE LAUNCH VEHICLE

Updated: Nov 6, 2020

Reusable launch vehicles are now no futuristic concept. This was made possible by spacex founder ELON MUSK. Falcon 9 reusability are the biggest feat to be regarded in the history of rocket science. Another such feat is “New shephard” rocket by BLUE ORIGIN which also incorporates reusability. Imagine that your rocket no more has to take a deep breath and drown in the ocean. Now it can land wherever you want.

Owing to low cost, Russia now has their own version. Such design is called “AMUR”. AMUR rocket was in development by the joined deal between ROSCOSMOS State Corporation and PROGRESS ROCKET AND SPACE CENTER on October 5, 2020.

INITIAL LAUNCH:

AMUR is initially planned to launch on 2026 with its initial prototypes will fly and can be used up to 10 times. And ROSCOSMOS further added that the intention was to use it for 100 times and more. Yeah, you heard it right. It’s 100 times. The AMUR will land at any droneships on sea and will be moved to coast via automatic robots.

AMUR ENGINE:

We did not have any clear information on the propulsion system. However ROSCOSMOS added that it will use “METHANE” as their primary fuel for the two stage amur rocket. The primary reason for using methane is that it is highly economical and also reduces heat in the system increasing the life of the system.

TWO VERSIONS OF AMUR:

AMUR will be produced in two versions one being the reusable 10.5 tons carrying capacity version to the LOW EARTH ORBIT and non-reusable version of 12.5 tons version.

ROSCOSMOS stopped sharing news about AMUR after people started mocking that it is a cheap rip-off version of FALCON 9. However let us witness what the future may hold for AMUR and how it may benefit the future of rocket science.
